Chore list to keep busy

Well I was searching for a “before” picture from my photos on facebook and came up empty handed. There aren’t any good body shots. I’ll have to search my home computer to see if I have any recent ones.

So now i’m going to tell you my list of household chores that should keep me busy during this transition into a healthier life.

Basically, I love TV and could watch it a lot. Not all the time because there isn’t something on all the time. But I DVR the heck out of TV and it’s great. One thing it does though, is make me feel lazy. So I made a list to curb the laziness that would normally ensue. We moved in about 4 weeks ago, so though we are unpacked, not everything is exactly organized the way we want it.

List of things I need to do around the house:

#1 – Clean up and organize the Study. We’re using the formal living room as our ‘study’ because our desk wouldn’t fit in what would’ve been the office. Even though the office is basically like a giant closet that contains two more large closets. It’s probably smaller than most walk in closets. ANYWAY. There’s a love seat in there, a piano, an organ, an old TV stand and our current desk. Uhm.. clutter! They should be selling the piano soon and maybe i’ll put that TV stand in my craft room (see below). I want to move the loveseat and it really needs some curtains and also probably some wall decor!

#2 – Organize the Storage Room (aka the old Office). I want to make it into a craft room which includes a wrapping paper station. It has horrible wall-paper, so maybe I can muster up the energy to take that down. I wouldn’t mind having white walls. I want to put up shelving and a wrapping paper holder thingy, and my future SIL got me some cute stuff to store bows and ribbons in. We have some random chairs in there and a small desk we’re storing for Alex’s parents. So i need to decide if it will work in the room or if it needs to be moved up into the attic storage space. I’m thinking the latter because it’s ugly but we’ll see.

#3 – Clean up and organize the Garage. By this I mean do a complete clean up/organize. We did a half-assed job when we moved in, i swept it out but didn’t organize. Granted there’s still some crap in there that needs to be moved up to the attic because his parents didn’t know what to do with it. We’ll move it up there and hopefully have a nice little area to store stuff, including the grill (even though I think that belongs in the back yard).

#4 – Clean up and organize the basement. Basements are so dirty and ours is exceptionally spidery. I don’t know where they come from but maybe if i suck them all up with the shopvac, they’ll never return?? Really though, it’s messy and there are un-needed boxes in a lot of it. Alex is just starting to get all his homebrew stuff organized and there’s a minivan on the other side but hopefully that’ll be outta there soon enough. It’d be awesome to have a ping pong table down there!

#5 – Buy a new vacuum than use it. The one we have is really old and our cats are losing more hair (fur??) these days. I think it’s because Domino (the black and white, but mostly black one) thinks that being brushed is playtime and will literally bite you if you try to hold him down. I need a hood or something to put over his face so he can’t see me.

#6 – Sew two duvet covers. They’re too expensive to buy and how easy would it be to sew them. Now all I need to do is borrow a sewing machine and find large, cheap fabric with a fun pattern.

#7 – Find some decor for our master bedroom. We have one thing to hang up but the walls are mostly empty. I’m going to try to look at some DIY craft blogs to get inspiration and keep the cost down.

#8 – Clean out/Sweep out my car. It’s messy.. i mean, it’s a car. I spend 30 minutes a day (avg) total in it (not including weekends) so I don’t think about it much.

That should keep me busy for a while. Some of those projects are going to be pretty big. At least it should keep my butt up off the couch!

Also, for lunch I ended up having a tossed salad. Of course it came piled high with pickles, sweet peppers and onions, all of which i removedĀ  (not because of diet restriction, just general dislike. I mean, I like pickles but not on a salad covered in ranch). And the dressing was dumped on top of them so that removed most of that as well. But it was good and I think if I get it again, I can tell them just tomato and lettuce.

Day 1

Well now that I wrote the introductory post, I feel like I can talk about today.

Breakfast is the hardest meal for me. I have to force myself to eat eggs (though I enjoy dippy eggs with toast. my mom makes them the best). So this morning I had one egg white with a couple dabs of ketchup for flavor. I used my husbands baby cast iron skillet which I hated. I’ll have to pull out my baby non-stick from now on. The egg was just too gooey this morning.

I had a snack at 10.. a polly-o string cheese and a couple pepperoni slices. I also drank a SF (Sugar free) Red Bull, which I love. Now I need to find something good for lunch since I didn’t pack anything.

I’m thinking we’ll do fish for dinner with some fresh veggies. We have snap peas growing in the garden right now that are ready to eat, we also have organic asparagus and garden broccoli. And we’re taking a trip to the local farmers market, so hopefully we can get lots of fresh stuff there too for tomorrow and the weekend. I’m going to buy a microwave steamer at Target this week and start using that for veggies for lunch. I love veggies and I can’t do salad everyday so this is a good solution to the lunch problem.

For exercise even though we’ll be walking around the market, I want to walk a mile or so around the neighborhood. I need to map it out but it should be pretty easy! Not to mention the weather has been perfect so far this week!!

So I have a blog on blogger and I wanted to start a new one about my journey to a healthier life. I love all the wordpress blogs that I subscribed to through blogger and already i’m impressed. So many more tools and options!

But that’s not why i’m here. I’m here, writing this now, because I want to get healthier. I’ll start with some stats.

Age: 25

Height/Weight: 5’5″ and 145 lbs

Activity Level: Light – Moderate

Healthy Eating Scale (1-10): 8.5

Problem Areas: Upper Thighs and Love Handles

Goal: 130 lbs

How to attain goal: I’m going to be doing the South Beach diet as well as exercising.

Here’s a background of my life: Basically throughout my childhood and high school, i was very active in sports and in high school i hummed around the 120-125 mark. With gym class every day and only one chance to eat, followed by after-school sports plus the fact that when you’re younger your metabolism is moving faster, it was really easy to maintain that weight. Even through my first year of college I maintained that. Then when I moved home, walked less and ate more, didn’t do any extra-curricular sports or activity. I transferred to a different school with maybe one friend there and though my walking started back up, a little thing called alcohol and late night food began.

Since graduating, I dropped some weight.. but not as much as I’d like. I play volleyball in a rec-league in the winter time once a week but during the summer months I’m not as active. Luckily it’s June 8th.. plenty of time to turn that around. My husband and I like to play tennis and we recently moved out of a city and into a suburb so the neighborhood is way more conducive to walking around safely.

I outlined my plan above but here’s some more detail. I have done the South Beach diet before so it’s nothing new. But each time I lose weight, I think that I need to be rewarded, so I have some carbs. It’s a vicious cycle that i’m ready to break. Starting today. So my plan is to do Phase 1 for 3 weeks straight and then move to phase 2 and stay there. I plan to walk outside, play tennis or do pilates/yoga every day to help speed the weight loss and toning.

My goal is to lose 15 lbs and get down to 130 lbs by July 10th. That is the day my family leaves for the beach for a couple days. Every year, I dislike myself in a bikini and this year, i’m going to enjoy it. This is my inspiration. I have lots of skinny friends that look amazing in swim suits and I don’t want to be the one who doesn’t. That’s really the root of my inspiration though sometimes I tell people it’s because I want to be in shape when I have children so that I bounce back faster. That is also true but it’s mostly because I want to look as good as my friends do. It really seems like they don’t even try even though i’m sure they actually do.

Maybe you’re wondering why I decided to write a blog about this. Well, it’s just the start of a blog that can hopefully translate into a life blog. It’s starting as a lifestyle change blog and can hopefully transition in the future into a life blog, then maybe a baby blog and back to a life blog. I really enjoy writing about what i’m doing in my life and hopefully can look back on it one day and remember all the good times and maybe some of the hard times. Otherwise, i’m sure to forget.. since my memory isn’t the best already!
